The owner of Lafayette Engineering in California was given the Mercedes in part payment in the 1990’s and over 25 years the owner ran his company and in between client restorations carried out the work, sourcing all genuine Mercedes parts from Germany.
Following the pandemic, he and his wife made the decision to return permanently to the United Kingdom. Sadly, shortly after their arrival, his health deteriorated rapidly, and he passed away before the restoration could be completed.
The restoration has now been completed to a very high standard. The quality of the workmanship is evident throughout, from the beautifully presented coachwork and elegant interior to the careful attention given to the mechanical components. The car looks magnificent and performs exactly as a properly restored 220S should: starting readily, running smoothly, and driving with the refinement and precision expected of a finely engineered Mercedes-Benz.
The body work was fully restored along with a recent full interior retrim in the UK.
The car is accompanied by its original three-piece Karl Baisch fitted luggage set.

Following completion of the restoration, the 220S was entered at short notice into a classic car show featuring approximately 300 vehicles. Against strong competition from a wide range of exceptional classics, the Mercedes-Benz was awarded “Best in Show”,
